Sample academic review report
Illustrative example using fictional material. It contains no student data and does not evaluate a real study.
Review scope
A fictional community participation research proposal: alignment of the problem and questions, methods, study instrument and references.
| Area | Example finding | Suggested action | Priority |
|---|---|---|---|
| Research problem | The topic is described without a clear gap. | Identify the unanswered question and study boundaries. | High |
| Questions and aims | An aim has no corresponding question. | Map each question to an aim and data source. | High |
| Methods and sample | Participant selection is unexplained. | Specify the population, criteria and limits of generalisation. | High |
| Study instrument | One item asks about two concepts. | Split the item and review response options. | Medium |
| References | A citation has no reference entry. | Match citations and references and verify source details. | Medium |
Before and after
Before: “Are services clear and easy to access?”
After: Two statements: “Service information is clear” and “The access process is straightforward.” Respondents may assess these two aspects differently.
Revision follow-up
Each comment records its location, requested action, status (complete / partial / outstanding), and the reason for that status after the revised work is read. Page references are added from the actual manuscript.
Academic review supports the researcher’s own work and responsibility. It does not guarantee acceptance or publication.
